Logical Emma!

So anyone who knows Emma knows that she is a very logically minded little girl. She's proved us right once again. At school today, she learned about her 5 senses. She was expected to cut out the 5 pictures that represented the senses and glue them to the top of the page, then cut out some other clip art pictures to represent an example of the sense that you use. For the mouth (taste) she glued a cup of hot cocoa, the teacher said it was coffee, but Emma knows that we don't drink coffee so she asked if she could pretend that it was hot cocoa. Then she glued the hand (touch) and a picture of someone petting a bunny. The nose (smell) got a picture of a dog sniffing a bone. Near the ear (hearing) was pasted a bell. Then came the eye (sight) where Emma glued a skunk. The teachers asked her why she didn't glue the skunk on the smell page, wondering if she really understood the concepts. I don't think that she answered them. She told me that she didn't tell them why. So when I asked her why, she told me quite seriously, that a skunk may not always smell unless it is scared and sprays, sometimes it may not smell much at all, but you can always see a skunk. Well, I couldn't argue with that reasoning.

Give Noah an hour & he will surprise you!

Since Emma has been at Kindergarten, Noah is finding fun things to do independent of his big sister. He LOVES puzzles and is really displaying his thinking and motor skills. He put all of these puzzles together in about an hour! The puzzle on the left is over 4 feet long and has over 50 pieces. He is amazing! Go Noah!

Expedition to Save the Walrus!

What imaginations my two munchkins have! They packed up everything they would need for an expedition into the jungle to save their walrus friends. Apparently a scary goopey mud monster had stolen the walruses in the night and Emma and Noah had to save them! They were very solemn when packing their backpacks, discussing how each item could be used in dire circumstances.
Noah brought his saw tooth shark, a birthday candle to light the way, some play food, some markers to mark the way to find the way back, and a gun that he constructed out of PVC pipe. Emma brought a jump rope, sun glasses, a buzz light year astro blaster, and some "friends" to help. They told us not to follow them it was too dangerous and the monster could turn invisible so be really quiet so that he couldn't find us on the couch. Then they bravely set off on their journey. We heard quite a lot of ruckus in the back of the house, lots of screaming for help and I'll save you's. They apparently escaped uninjured and triumphant, they were very proud of themselves!

MOVIE NIGHT!

Jason and I wanted to teach the kids about earning money and in turn how to make decisions and spend it wisely. So on Friday the kids spent all afternoon cleaning up their messes in the house and I would give them money (fake) for doing a job well done. By the end of the day they had both earned $20 in play money. When Jason came home from work we ordered pizza then the fun began! We made movie theater signs, I made brownies and popcorn, and we set up our mini theater with a movie we had rented.

I found the kids toy cash register and mini cans of soda pop and huge candy bars to put out on the counter as well. I made a sign for all the concessions and then the movie theater opened for business. The kids got their money, but were upset that Jason and I didn't have any money to spend so they told us that daddy must have earned $20 for going to work today and I had made food and helped clean all day so I must have earned $20 too. We were pleased that they thought of us so we doled out our money too.

The first decision they got to make was whether they wanted to see the movie for $10 or just buy candy and play in their rooms. They both wanted to watch the movie so they handed over their money. Emma was surprised at how much the movie cost! "I only have half of my money left!" She exclaimed. She's learning fast! Then they decided to each get a soda for $1. They both also wanted a brownie for $3. Then came the king sized candy bar for $3. Then Emma really surprised us when she said, "I only have $3 left. I could buy more cany, but I don't know if I'll eat it, maybe I'll save my $3 and come get another soda if I want one later." Smart girl. Of course, she tried to explain it for Noah and like always, when his sister seems to be brilliant he says, "Okay, Emma, me too!" We all watched the movie, ate our goodies and had a great night.

Noah Thinks He Ate A Frog!

Yes, my silly boy is at it again! The other day he woke up and, trying to gross out Emma, said that he wanted to put a frog in the blender and eat it! I asked if he would settle for cereal and he REFUSED, with a smirk on his face. He also specified that it had to have rainbow colors like his red eyed tree frog. Well, I’m game for just about anything so while they were doing their morning routine I put some applesauce in a bowl with green food coloring, then I mixed in rainbow cake sprinkles. It was sitting on the table when they came in to eat breakfast. He looked in the bowl then shot a glance to the counter, where I had dutifully put the blender with some left over green applesauce dripping within. He looked at me and without a word he took a big fat bite of it. I’ll give it to the little guy, he’s got guts!

Emma's 1st Day of Kindergarten!

Today was Emma's 1st day of Kindergarten! She was excited, but a little apprehensive. She cried the night before, nerves, but woke up happy. After we got her off to school, I cried, but I'm allowed to I'm the mommy! She picked out her own alfit and was really proud of it. She also picked out her 2nd day alfit too. She really liked school. Especially the yoga and science experiment she got to try (matching sounds and smells). She is very excited that during her cultural studies time in class she will have a Zooology teacher, Botany teacher, Art & Spanish instructor, and a Yoga instructor. Pretty impressive for Kindergarten!
